Celebrate World Snake Day With Us!
On July 16, 2026, slither on in to meet with our cold-blooded residents. Watch them move, and discover why these incredible reptiles deserve your awe (not your fear).

Our Educators are always excited to share fascinating facts that flip everything you thought you knew about snakes.
Facts About Snakes
- Snakes smell with their tongues. They have a forked tongue that collects scent particles from the air and delivers them to a special organ on the roof of the mouth.
- They never stop growing. Unlike humans, most snakes keep growing their entire lives.
- No eyelids, no problem. Snakes can’t blink. Instead, a clear scale called a spectacle protects each eye, and it gets shed and replaced along with the rest of their skin.
- They can eat prey bigger than their own head. A snake’s lower jaw isn’t fused like human jaws. The two halves are connected by stretchy tissue, letting them swallow meals whole that seem impossibly large.
- Snakes don’t have external ears. They “hear” mainly by sensing vibrations through the ground with their jawbones.
- They’re found almost everywhere. Snakes live on every continent except Antarctica.
- Some snakes can go months between meals. Thanks to a slow metabolism, a large snake can survive on just a handful of meals per year.
Come nose-to-glass with our habitats, built to mirror the natural environments our snakes come from.
