Layers of Life
Immerse campers in the rich and vibrant world of tropical rainforests, teaching them about biodiversity, animal adaptations, plant life, and the critical importance of rainforest conservation through interactive and engaging activities. By the end of the camp, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the rainforest’s ecosystems, the unique creatures that live there, and the urgent need to protect this vital environment. They will also have built lasting memories through animal encounters, creative projects, and teamwork!
Sample Activities:
- Overview of rainforests and where they are found globally.
- Explore rainforest layers (emergent, canopy, understory, and forest floor) using a giant rainforest mural.
- Feel, smell, and touch tropical plants and fruits like cacao pods and bananas.
- Craft: Create a large mural with animals and plants found at each rainforest level.

Deep Sea Mysteries
Combine science and art in an engaging way, helping campers explore the beauty and complexity of marine life through creative expression. Campers will create marine-inspired art projects while learning about ocean ecosystems, marine animals, and environmental conservation. By the end of the camp, participants will have developed their artistic skills, expanded their knowledge of marine life, and created meaningful projects that reflect the beauty and importance of ocean ecosystems. They will leave inspired to be both artists and ocean ambassadors!
Sample Activities:
- Learn about the unique adaptations of deep-sea creatures, like bioluminescence and pressure tolerance.
- Visit habitats featuring deep-sea animals like sea jellies and giant squid models.
- Art project: Create glow-in-the-dark deep-sea creature sculptures using phosphorescent paint.
- Science experiment: Create bioluminescent slime to explore chemical reactions.
- Storytelling: Write and illustrate a short story about a deep-sea adventure.

They will also take home tangible projects and ideas to continue their journey as eco-warriors!
Sample Activities:
- Explore the effects of pollution and litter on marine life.
- Field activity: A scavenger hunt to collect and classify several types of waste (plastic, paper, glass, etc.).
- Experiment: How long does it take for varied materials to decompose?
- Project: Campers work in teams to build large, recycled art installations (e.g., sea creatures made from plastic bottles).

Mermaids and Manatees
Engage campers with fascinating myths and legends about the sea, while teaching them about the marine animals that inspired these stories. Through imaginative activities, animal encounters, and scientific exploration, campers will learn how folklore and science are connected. By the end of the camp, participants will have explored the connections between mythology and marine science. They will gain a deeper appreciation for the ocean’s wonders, from legendary creatures to the real-life animals that inspire awe and wonder in people worldwide.
Sample Activities:
- Learn about the legends of mermaids and compare them to marine animals like manatees and dugongs (thought to have inspired mermaid sightings).
- Learn about manatees and practice identifying their features.
- Hands-on activity: Mermaid vs. marine mammal science – compare human swimming abilities to those of aquatic mammals.
- Creative activity: Design a mermaid or ocean guardian character based on marine life adaptations.
