Coral Reefs: Busy Living Cities

Inspire a love for the ocean by teaching campers about marine ecosystems, animal behaviors, and the environmental challenges facing our oceans, through interactive learning and fun activities. By the end of the camp, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of marine ecosystems, conservation efforts, and the role they can play as future ocean protectors! 


Sample Activities:

  • Hands-on coral anatomy demonstration with models and real-life coral specimens. 
  • Observation of reef-dwelling animals like clownfish and sea anemones. 
  • Coral bleaching experiment to understand climate change impacts. 
  • Craft: Build and decorate a 3D coral reef.

Intro to Ocean Myths & Legends

Engage campers with fascinating myths and legends about the sea, while teaching them about the marine animals that inspired these stories. Through imaginative activities, animal encounters, and scientific exploration, campers will learn how folklore and science are connected. By the end of the camp, participants will have explored the connections between mythology and marine science. They will gain a deeper appreciation for the ocean’s wonders, from legendary creatures to the real-life animals that inspire awe and wonder in people worldwide. 


Sample Activities:

  • Explore stories from diverse cultures about mythical sea creatures, such as mermaids, the Kraken, and sea dragons. 
  • Why did ancient sailors create these stories? How might they have been influenced by real creatures like whales and squid? 
  • Meet and observe sea creatures like sea jellies, rays, and sea stars. 
  • Create a personal sea creature journal to document myths and marine life throughout the camp.

Rainforest Wildlife Adventures

Immerse campers in the rich and vibrant world of tropical rainforests, teaching them about biodiversity, animal adaptations, plant life, and the critical importance of rainforest conservation through interactive and engaging activities. By the end of the camp, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the rainforest’s ecosystems, the unique creatures that live there, and the urgent need to protect this vital environment. They will also have built lasting memories through animal encounters, creative projects, and teamwork!


Sample Activities:

  • Focus on animal adaptations in the rainforest, such as camouflage and mimicry.  
  • Guided observation of the Aquarium’s live rainforest animal habitats (e.g., poison dart frogs, giant river fish, and sloths).  
  • Predator vs. prey simulation game where campers learn about food chains and survival strategies. 
  • Interactive story time featuring traditional tales from rainforest cultures. 
  • Craft: Design an animal mask inspired by a favorite rainforest creature.

Underwater World Exploration

Combine science and art in an engaging way, helping campers explore the beauty and complexity of marine life through creative expression. Campers will create marine-inspired art projects while learning about ocean ecosystems, marine animals, and environmental conservation. By the end of the camp, participants will have developed their artistic skills, expanded their knowledge of marine life, and created meaningful projects that reflect the beauty and importance of ocean ecosystems. They will leave inspired to be both artists and ocean ambassadors! 


Sample Activities:

  • Introduction to the vast diversity of ocean habitats and creatures. 
  • Guided tour of the Aquarium’s habitats to observe marine life and gather inspiration for projects. 
  • Art project: Create watercolor paintings of an ocean scene, focusing on the various habitats (reefs, open water, deep sea). 
  • Hands-on activity: Use microscopes to examine plankton and other tiny sea creatures.
  • Storytelling: Listen to a myth or legend about the ocean to spark imagination for future projects.

Sharing the Planet

Empower campers with knowledge and hands-on experience about sustainability, conservation, and environmental stewardship. Through fun activities and creative projects, they will learn how to protect ecosystems, reduce waste, and inspire others to care for the planet. By the end of the camp, participants will have gained the knowledge and skills to reduce waste, protect wildlife, and inspire others to live sustainably. They will also take home tangible projects and ideas to continue their journey as eco-warriors!


Sample Activities:

  • Discuss how we can show our love for nature by sharing beautiful outdoor spaces. 
  • Explore ways to appreciate wild animals in wild spaces. 
  • Hands-on demonstration: Create an art piece of an animal’s home to inspire loved ones to care about our shared planet.  
  • Team activity: Compare their favorite things about their homes and what they observed in the Aquarium’s animal habitats.
