Fast Facts
- Tree kangaroos are remarkable jumpers. They can leap down from heights of up to 60 feet without injury and can jump horizontally between trees over distances of 30 feet.
- These marsupials spend approximately 60% of their time sleeping. Unlike some other tree-dwelling animals, they do not build nests but instead rest on sturdy branches where they feel secure.
- Typically solitary (except during breeding), tree kangaroos tend to ignore one another even when sharing the same tree.


Range
New Guinea, northeastern Australia, and some nearby islands.

Habitat
Live in tropical rainforests, mostly in mountainous or densely wooded regions.

Size
Generally 20–30 inches long, with tails about the same length; can weigh 15–30 lbs depending on species

Eats leaves, fruits, flowers, bark, and occasionally moss or ferns
