Reflecting on achievements and looking forward to another year of education and inspiration
Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is thrilled to announce the renewal of its partnership with Rio Tinto Kennecott (Kennecott). Over the past three years, Rio Tinto has been instrumental in inspiring students across Utah. As this collaboration continues, the Aquarium is excited to share some highlights of their partnership as they look forward to further inspiring the next generation to learn about the wonders of the natural world.
One of the major accomplishments of this partnership is the Rio Tinto Kennecott Plaza. It’s an innovative space that extends education beyond the walls of the Aquarium. Through interactive learning experiences and play structures, guests can explore their connection to our Living Planet and ecosystems from around the world, igniting their curiosity to learn about the environmental impact of their choices.
Loveland Living Planet Aquarium and Kennecott prioritize equitable access, especially for Title I schools facing economic challenges. The Aquarium’s school outreach programs engage 2nd, 4th, and 6th graders for free, reaching 60,000 students during the 2022-23 school year, with 12,500 from Title I schools. Field trips offer free admission into the Aquarium for Title I schools, serving 44,000 Title I students totaling 88,000 field trip admissions. Kennecott has helped support these efforts which allows us to continue to waive the admission cost for Title I schools. These efforts are essential steps toward helping children who may not have access to education experiences that encourage them to explore opportunities, learn new skills, and discover their passions. This partnership has and will continue to shape the lives of many young people and impact families for generations to come.
As a continued effort to help children grow their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education, Kennecott is expanding their support to the Aquarium’s Teen STEM Futures program in 2024. Teen STEM Futures ignite the curiosity of our passionate young minds through immersive encounters with diverse STEM professionals. More than just lectures, these interactive sessions equip teens with invaluable knowledge, hands-on skills and vital connections to local STEM professionals. We are thrilled to have Kennecott help foster a vibrant community of like-minded young innovators, nurturing their passion and preparing them to boldly shape the future of STEM.
