The Aquarium is home to nearly 600 species of plants ranging from small flowers, shrubs, and vines to beautiful branching trees.

Joshua Tree

Yucca brevifolia

This desert tree can live for hundreds of years, but lacks growth rings, making the exact age of an individual difficult to determine. It flowers from February through April.

Look for this tree on our plaza!

Cacao Tree

Monstera deliciosa

This tree thrives in high humidity and rainfall, producing large pods of fruit. Each pod contains around 40 cocoa beans which are used to make cocoa mass, cocoa powder, and chocolate.

Look for this plant in Journey to South America.

Penstemon

Penstemon

This tubular flower has over 80 species native to Utah in blues, reds, yellows, and orange hues. It is a favorite flower among butterflies and hummingbirds.
