Education is the cornerstone of the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. We are dedicated to providing a quality educational experience for all interns. Our internships are designed to expose interns to the many facets of aquarium careers. Our in-depth programs will allow interns to explore opportunities in their designated field while working side by side with industry professionals. Our goal is to prepare the next generation to enter the industry with the knowledge and experience needed to start their career path.
Internship requirements
Applicants must have completed a minimum of a sophomore year at an accredited college or university. All prospective interns must complete the application process. In addition to the online application, applicants must provide a resume to Volunteer Services at volunteer@livingplanetaquarium.org
Fall Marketing and Events Intern
(Volunteer/College Credit for UVU Students Only)

Description:
Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is seeking an energetic student intern who is passionate about animals, conservation, and marketing and events. The Marketing and Events Intern is an opportunity for learning and real-world experience in the day-to-day operations of a Marketing and Events department of a large non-profit organization.
Qualifications:
· Must be a student at Utah Valley University.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Social Media Support: Assist Social Media Coordinator to create content, manage, and post on the Aquarium’s Instagram Stories.
· Blog Management: Collaborate with Aquarium Husbandry and Education teams to write and post monthly blog articles.
· Event Coordination: Assist the Public Events Manager in implementing and running Aquarium events, including vendor communication, set-up, and tear-down. Fall public events include Yoga with the Sharks, Halloween on the High Seas, and Festival of the Seas. Additional events may need assistance.
Additional learning opportunities may include assisting with commercial filmings, photo shoots, marketing messaging and strategy, public relations projects, advertising media analysis, and other duties as assigned under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Public Relations.
Scope of Opportunity:
· 10-12 Weeks – Flexible Start Date
· 180 hours total – Hours per week TBD but will work around intern school schedule
· Hours may require early mornings and/or late evenings
· May qualify for three (3) credit hours
Special Working Conditions:
· This opportunity requires long periods of sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and lifting
· Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Husbandry Internship Roles
Saltwater Aquarist Internship

Description:
This position will work alongside the Saltwater team. In this experience, you will learn about the basic welfare needs and care requirements for a wide variety of marine animals including sharks, rays, sea turtles, cephalopods, seahorses, jellyfish, corals, and teleost fish. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be required to complete an internship project. In addition to the hands-on skills you will learn from the day to day tasks, we will also offer courses taught by our Husbandry team members throughout the internship.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
· Diet preparation and feeding
· Aquarium maintenance
· Record keeping
· Animal observations
· Water quality testing
· Assisting with necropsies
Requirements: ·
· Must commit 3-5 full days a week (8-hour shifts)
· Commit to an assigned schedule for 12 weeks
· Be 18 years of age or older
· Provide proof of a negative TB test and willing to submit to a background check
· Have at least two years toward a college degree in an animal-related field

Quarantine Aquarist Internship

Freshwater Aquarist Internship

Position is experience based and is therefore unpaid.
Description:
This position will work alongside the Freshwater team at Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. This position will entail the care and husbandry of fish, reptiles, amphibians, terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates as well as feeder insects. In this experience, you will learn and assist hands on with a variety of skills that are comparable to the skills needed to obtain an entry level animal care position in a zoological facility. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be required to have completed an internship project. In addition to the hands-on skills you will learn from the day to day tasks, we will also offer courses taught by our Husbandry team members throughout the internship.
